Post-traumatic Stress Disorder

Post-traumatic stress disorder can start to manifest itself within one month of a traumatic event, but sometimes symptoms may not appear until years after the event. These symptoms cause significant problems in social or work situations and in relationships. They can also interfere with your ability to go about your normal daily tasks. United in Love is a non-profit organization that aims to help those who are scared to seek help. Let’s learn about this silent killer.

The Background

In a traumatic event, a body’s defense mechanism kicks in and creates a stress response, which may give you different physical symptoms, and intensifies emotions.

In this fight or flight response, the body prepares for an emergency leading to symptoms like:
• raised blood pressure
• increased heart rate
• increased sweating
• reduced stomach activity (loss of appetite).

It’s called our evolutionary way of responding to an emergency, making it easier for you to fight or run away. Right after such an event people may also experience shock and denial. This can give way over several hours or days to a range of other feelings such as sadness, anger and guilt. Many people feel better and recover gradually. However, if these feelings persist, they can lead to more serious mental health problems such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and depression.

Our solution

We make sure our partners are empowered by creating opportunities for individuals and communities. Dealing with the challenges of today requires problem-solvers who bring different perspectives and are willing to take risks.

Outreach programs

The biggest challenge for PTSD patients is to accept its existence. United in Love creates outreach programs that cater to the needs of people in need.

Create support platforms

United in Love creates support groups with the help of trained volunteers to uplift people suffering from depression as a result of PTSD or other mental health problems.
With this initiative, our goal is to connect PTSD survivors with professionals. With access to the right resources, people can become empowered by their own abilities and gain the confidence to fulfill their potential. Learn more about our work by getting in touch with our team today.
